The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Developer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
The news echoes a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire message from the president's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to heart and overhauled the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.
His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having spent the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to persist witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
The President
